Job Summary

Join UT Southwestern as a Manager of Clinical Research Operations in the Clinical Research Office (CRO) at Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) and help us find a cure for cancer. As a Manager over CRO Operations, you will have the opportunity to join a team of the top cancer specialists in the country and be a part of our innovative therapies, cutting-edge research, and life changing clinical trials. As a valued team member, you will have oversight of the Disease Oriented Team (DOT) clinical research managers and as such, will work with closely with an additional Manager of Clinical Operations to align DOT processes to ensure the CRO runs efficiently with respect to internal clinical coordination operations. In this role you will also liaise with clinic managers to improve workflows between clinical research and clinic staff, and identify areas for additional training or trouble-shooting. You will also be responsible for review of cancer research-related RL solutions reports and initiate deeper dives as needed. Additionally, you will plan and conduct the CRO coordinator’s meeting and attend regular meetings with other CRO operations managers to work together as a team of leaders to meld educational, clinical, and administrative aspects of the CRO.

Experience and Education

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in science, social science, healthcare administration, or a related field, and at least 5 years of experience managing clinical trials required.
  • Experience managing Oncology clinical trials required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of Master’s degree.

Job Duties

  • Oversees the organizational and operational activities of the clinical trials at SCCC clinics and affiliates.
  • This includes oversight of related Disease-Oriented Teams (DOTs) activities, developing performance standards and expectation for DOT managers, supervisors, and teams, and periodically assess the attainment of these standards.
  • Consults with DOT managers and faculty leaders to set performance expectations for research nursing and technical staff managing oncology clinical trials.
  • Works with the Education Program Manager to identify, develop and evaluate key core competencies of clinical research personnel to tailor training needs.
  • Maintains peer-level working relationships with faculty and academic departments across UTSW to oversee the conduct of oncology clinical trials.
  • Fulfills duties of DOT managers in their absence.
  • Oversees the financial and administrative resources available for the management of clinical oncology trials, working closely with Cancer Center leadership, staff and faculty from various departments with UTSW Medical Center.
  • Develops budget, fee, cost recovery and revenue recommendations for core functions.
  • Works with managers to analyze and review study budgets to ensure that all studies are fiscally sound and that all study costs are recovered or minimized.
  • Develops and implements best practices for quality compliance and assurance.
  • Develops and manages relevant internal monitoring programs to ensure compliance with the Simmons Cancer Center DSMC as well as all relevant rules, regulations, and policies.
  • May coordinate and oversee the development and management of UTSW Simmons Cancer Center affiliate networks as it relates to the conduct of oncology clinical trials. Includes building out new functionality and infrastructure to support these activities. Recommends new and updates to existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong leadership, organizational, and administrative skills to effectively organize plans and programs in a highly technical research environment. Skilled as both a leader and participant in cross-functional and interdepartmental teams and excellent communicator. Administrative expertise including working with technical operational support functions and multidisciplinary research programs/grants. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and listening skills. Analytical and strategic thinker. Strong Editorial and writing skills. Strong instructional and speaking skills Ability to master medical research regulations and proposal development.
