Panguitch Lake, a Blue Ribbon fishery in southern Utah. In fact, we have over 40 Blue Ribbon fisheries that provide a wide variety of fishing and fun for the whole family. Spring and early summer are a terrific time of year to fish in beautiful southern Utah.

Night crawlers and PowerBait are the top choices among Panguitch Lake anglers. Plastic lures, casting spoons, and spinners from shore or a boat can be effective. Fly fishers strip leech patterns in black, olive, and brown.

Panguitch Lake is now open for fishing after hiatus, officials say to steer clear of dam.

The lake sits at 8,200 feet in elevation and covers 1,234 acres, with a maximum depth of 66 feet. Much of the land surrounding the lake is managed by the Dixie National Forest (DNF) and the area supports three DNF campgrounds, several private marinas/resorts, and a general store.

Do not swim or water ski. Avoid areas of algae when boating. Clean fish well and discard guts. Keep animals away.

You may catch and keep up to four rainbow trout of any size at Scofield. If you catch a trout that is not a rainbow—and it ranges from 15–22 inches—you must release it. The limit is 4 trout; 2 may be cutthroat or tiger trout under 15 inches, and no more than 1 may be a cutthroat or tiger trout over 22 inches.

Panguitch Lake is surrounded by a lush forest which extends down to the shoreline of the lake. There are many biking and hiking trails all around Panguitch Lake in which travelers are likely to come across a variety of wildlife including coyotes, elk, hawks, eagles, foxes and various types of deer.

Fish that are big, agile, or just flat out strong can break off and spit hooks easily, making the fight equal parts strength and skill. Powerful fish like blue marlin, swordfish, tuna, salmon, and so many other species have the strength to make anglers and their tackle fail.

What feeds Panguitch Lake? ›

Panguitch Lake is situated at an elevation of 8,212 feet approximately 18 miles southwest of Panguitch, Utah. The lake is the source of Panguitch Creek and is fed by three small inlet streams: Blue Springs Creek, Clear Creek, and Ipson Creek.

Good natural freshwater fishing baits include worms, leeches, minnows, crayfish, crickets and grasshoppers. Freshwater bottom-feeders like catfish and carp are also attracted to cut fishing baits (cut-up bait fish) and prepared baits called dough balls.

Enjoy boating, lake fishing for rainbow, brown, and brook trout, and fly fishing at Panguitch Lake. The lake is located 1/2 mile from the campground.

Cedar Lake offers a total of six species of game fish. Come fish trophy Walleye, Muskie, Pike and Bass.

Open for trout May 22 - Oct 31. 5 hatchery trout per day, no minimum length. Trout over 20 inches are considered steelhead. Open all year for hatchery salmon and hatchery steelhead.

Panguitch is near five national parks as well as monuments and near teeming trout streams and lakes. Campgrounds, recreation areas, a ski resort, and verdant forests surround the town.

Panguitch Lake Dam is owned and operated by West Panguitch Irrigation Company, which supplies water to local ranchers and farmers. The company also provides untreated secondary water for Panguitch City residents' landscaping and gardening.

Panguitch Lake has always been known to grow large trout. Rainbows as well as Bonneville cutthroat are being caught on flies in excess of 10 pounds. Float tubes and pontoon boats are perfectly suitable for fishing these waters, but come prepared for to anchor down in weather as this is a large lake.

These blooms develop when naturally occurring cyanobacteria in the water multiply very quickly to form green or blue-green water, scum, or mats.

Lakes freeze over and ice fishing becomes a relaxing winter pastime. Panguitch Lake is very well-known in Utah as one of the best locations for ice fishing.

The Ohio River is considered to be "federal waters" and boaters need to comply with all U.S. Coast Guard requirements.

It's also great for kayaking, paddle boarding, and canoeing or just swimming at Indian Beach or one of the many coves. Only property owners are permitted to have a boat on the water and all boats pass a multi point inspection and must measure under 21'. No jet skis or pulling of inner tubes are allowed on the lake.

While boating is allowed outside of our peak season, there are several permits where restrictions apply during peak boating season. The Town of Lake Lure considers peak season as: the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. No more than two people may be pulled from a boat (skiing, tubing, etc.)

This 142-acre alpine reservoir restricts motorized boats, making it an idyllic location for kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards.
